News and Information
The following is a copy of the
mailing going out to all members in mid February, 2006.
If you have questions, please call the office.
Fellow Member,
This letter is to inform you of
changes that are being made by the IUPAT in the local union dues payment
process. A new program titled Integrated Member Services, “IMS”, had been
activated and is currently being used in our District Council. Put simply, the
accounting of your dues payments will now be submitted “live” via the internet
to the International. You may continue to either pay your dues by mail or in
person as you have always done and will still be issued a receipt and a current
work card. There is no cost for this program and your dues will not increase in
the year 2006.
This program has many
advantages built into it. It will allow for instant updates to the IUPAT
database for such things as address changes, transfer of classification, name
changes, and other member related operations. This information is then
available to the Local Union Financial Secretary at any time from any location.
The information is also available to the District Council and Pension Office.
It will also provide a streamlined method for the trustees of the Local to check
our finances each quarter and to complete LM and 990 forms for the Labor
Department and IRS each year.
However, you need to be aware
that because it is an instantly applied process, you will need to be diligent to
pay your dues on time. The system will know at the end of a given quarter if
you have paid your dues or not and will issue suspensions to any members that
are delinquent. Subsequently, should you become 6 months “or 2 quarters”
behind, you will be dropped from the membership rolls.
As a reminder, these are the
Constitutional rules on dues:
1) Dues for a given quarter are
due by the 20th day of the FIRST month of the quarter.
2) If you neglect to pay by the
end of the quarter and become suspended, you will be assessed an additional
$50.00.
3) Once suspended, if you fail
to become re-instated at the end of 6 months, you will be dropped. If dropped,
you will receive a break in service and will be required to take a new
application to again be in good standing. An application is currently $700.00.
Under this system, there
will be NO EXCEPTIONS. I URGE you to plan your dues payments as you would any
other household bill that you pay. I have enclosed a reminder card with this
letter for your use.
